Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of infants and toddlers with developmental delays?  As a child development Early Intervention Specialist (EIS), you will work directly with children aged 0-3 and their families via home visits and telehealth. Use your knowledge of child development to assess the child, create goals, and teach/coach their parents. We Care Services for Children is a 60-year-old nonprofit serving low-income and at-risk youth in central and eastern Contra Costa County.   We offer great benefits, full-time hours, and a flexible 4- or 5-day work week.  $30-$34/hour, depending on experience.

Key Responsibilities:
Working independently, the EIS conducts weekly, 1-hour appointments with children ages 0-3 and their parents in their homes, or occasionally via telehealth. The EIS administers standardized assessments such as Batelle (BDI-2) and Bayley-4, and individualized goals for the child.   The EIS provides parents/caregivers with information and demonstrations of activities and strategies appropriate to their child.  The EIS provides ongoing coaching to parents/caregivers and writes ongoing notes and reports to support the child’s needs.  The EIS engages with children and families in a positive manner, fostering strong relationships with the parent/caregiver and the child.

Summary of Key Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Development, Special Education, or a closely related field demonstrating strong understanding of infant and toddler development, and the importance of the parent/ caregiver-child relationship.
  • At least 2 years of experience working with infants and toddlers with special needs.  Ability to demonstrate a wide range of effective developmentally appropriate interventions and activities.
  • Experience completing developmental assessments, writing developmental progress reports, and developmental goals.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills.  Excellent listening skills.  Ability to explain and answer questions with patience and understanding.  
  • Must be able to work independently and communicate openly with internal team members.
  • Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
  • Must possess a valid California Driver's License and have reliable transportation and current auto insurance to travel to client homes (auto expenses are reimbursed at $0.75/mile).
  • Must pass physical exam and health screen with TB test, fingerprint clearance and background check.
